Charges await non-compliant jaywalkers

- By Juliet C. Revita

VIOLATORS of the Anti-Jaywalking Ordinance are urged to comply with the corresponding penalties or else the Davao City Transport and Traffic Management Office (CTTMO) will file legal charges against them.

CTTMO head Dionisio Abude said on Wednesday during AFP-PNP Media Forum at The Royal Mandaya Hotel that they have already endorsed the names of several jaywalkers to the Davao City Legal Office (CLO) and the Land Transportation Office (LTO) who have exceeded the given time to comply with their penalties.

"For our Anti-Jaywalking, the public should settle within seven days kung hindi, the traffic code instructed us to file case against the pedestrian violators," Abude saiod.

If these recorded violators will not heed to settle their obligation for violating the traffic rules and regulation, they will endorse those violators to the City Prosecutors Office in coordination with the CLO.

"Meron na tayong naendorse sa city legal officer and na-endorse sa LTO," Abude confirmed.

When asked if they have data on the number of endorsed violators, he said that he could not yet provide it.

Meanwhile, the truck ban has a P1,000 penalty while those who are caught violating pedestrian rules will be fined with P100 or a community service. The driver who violates the rules within the pedestrian lane, such as blocking pedestrian crossing shall pay P200.

According to him, from time to time, they update their system to determine violators who did not

comply within the time provided so that they could also submit it to the LTO before these violators could make transaction.

CTTMO and LTO signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) which will allow the city to conduct non-contact apprehension of drivers of vehicles through the use of the closed circuit television. Their office would also coordinate in reporting to them the names of violators so the LTO could freeze the renewal of driver's license of those who are caught in the non-contact apprehensions.

"We closely coordinate with the LTO to block the violators who failed to settle their penalties," he said. JCR
