Sara not eyeing presidency: PRRD

- By Juliet C. Revita

PRESIDENT Rodrigo R. Duterte brushed aside on Tuesday the speculations that his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio is planning to run for the presidential position after his term, citing that the latter has no interest in the highest post in the country.

During a press conference upon his arrival from his two-day official visit to Japan, the President clarified that his daughter has no ambition to succeed him in June 2022.

"Maniwala ka pala niyan? Istorya yan. Wala yan. No. Inday is not interested," Duterte explained.

He said that last year his daughter even planned to resign as the Mayor after she was left with no choice and run the city after he ran in the presidential election and won.

On July 1, 2016, or a day after Sara took her oath as city mayor, she submitted a resignation letter.

"You know, I'm telling you the truth. She did not really want to be Mayor. And I have a letter of her resignation," Duterte said.

The news surfaced after the Presidential daughter led the launching last month of the "Tapang at Malasakit Alliance for the Philippines," an umbrella organization composed of her father's supporters and her attendance during the celebration of Davao Occidental's second founding anniversary.

Earlier, Duterte's children announced their political plans after the end of their term in 2019. Duterte-Carpio said she plans to to run as a representative for District 1 while Vice Mayor Paolo Duterte will retire from politics and will instead do farming and focus on his family.
