AS the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) celebrates its anniversary next month, authorities are not letting their guards down against possible atrocities that the rebel group could launch in Davao region.

Police Regional Office (PRO 11) regional director Police Chief Superintendent Manuel Gaerlan told reporters yesterday during the change of command at Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) in Camp Panacan that they are still in full alert status amid threats posed by the communist rebels against civilians and men in uniform.

“There are reports that they will conduct tactical offensives. Tuloy-tuloy naman ang kanilang directive that is why we have maintained our full alert status,” Gaerlan said.

The CPP will celebrate its 49th founding anniversary on December 26.

Since Martial Law has not yet been lifted, they will continue with their stringent measures across the region to prevent further violent attacks against communities and private entities.

Gaerlan likewise alerted

his personnel to exercise vigilance in all their dealings as the hitmen of the communist rebels are active again and are targeting government forces.

Earlier, on Monday, a police officer, identified as Police Officer (PO3) Wilfredo Bansag Garol Jr., who was shot to death by two unidentified assailants at Purok 5, Sitio Luman, Barangay New Valencia, Tugbok District, Davao City.

The victim succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds in different parts of his body, resulting to his instantaneous death. He had just dropped his teacher-wife in school and picked up tow hitchhikers along the road on his way home. The hitchhikers were the one who killed him.

The investigation is ongoing and based on their intelligence report it was perpetrated by the rebels.
