Mindanao Open Wushu Sanda opens tomorrow

THE 2nd Mindanao Open Wushu Sanda Championsh­ips will open tomorrow at the NCCC Mall Davao.

King's Sword Martial Arts president Nell Jone Astudillo, who is also the organizer of the event, said 176 athletes, 14 teams, 27 coaches and 27 technical officials confirmed to join the two-day event that will cover a wushu sanda rules clinic for technical officials, refresher course for coaches and a wushu sanda competitio­n for the athletes.

"Eight of 15 Mindanao provinces will participat­e," Astudillo said.

Teams will come from Zamboanga Peninsula, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksarg­en Region, Caraga Region and Armm Region.

He said Kidapawan Wushu, Team Zamboangga, King's Sword Davao City, King's Sword Tagum City, King's Sword General Santos City, King's Sword Mlang, North Cotabato, DFUW Makilala, Dujali Davao del Norte, General Santos Muma, Talakag Bukidnon, I.Flex Davao and AIMA Davao Occidental will field entries in 29 categories entered in the tournament.

Astudillo added that a team from Cebu City will also join.

Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) commission­er Celia Kiram, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio and Sports Developmen­t Division-City Mayor's Office (SDDCMO) Michael Denton "Mikey" Aportadera are expected to grace the event organized in partnershi­p with NCCC Mall Davao.
