Sara: Barangay captains involved in drugs will be arrested

- By Karina V. Cañedo

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio said time is running out for the other barangay captains who were involved in drugs, as crackdown of listed barangay officials is to be expected in the next coming days following the recent arrest of a barangay councilor in a buy-bust operation.

"Sa listahan sa barangay officials involved in drugs, dili lang ni siya (Arnold Maalat). So isa lang ni siya sa gibuhatan ug operations (In the list of barangay officials involved in drugs, he is not the only one. It was only on him that an operation was conducted). Hopefully, we will see more operations of this kind in the coming days against our barangay officials who are involved in drugs," she said.

Earlier, the Investigation and Detective Management Branch (IMDB) of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is probing three police officers who are allegedly protectors of the illegal drug dealers, including the former Communal barangay captain and now barangay councilor Maalat, who was nabbed last Sunday in a buy-bust.

Duterte-Carpio said that DCPO will also work and remove scalawags within their ranks.

She also said the time for other barangay captains who are involved in drugs will also come to an end soon.

"Time will come that they will also be caught because they are already on the list, the agencies involved in the operations know what to do against them," Duterte-Carpio said. KVC
