City all set for Pasko Fiesta

DAVAO City Mayor Sara Z. Duterte-Carpio said the city is all set for the Pasko Fiesta Opening today.

Duterte-Carpio, in an interview yesterday after the short morning program for the commemorat­ion of Bonifacio Day near the Bonifacio monument, said the city is ready for the events for the Christmas season.

"Andam nata sa atong celebratio­n sa Pasko Fiesta and it will be a month-long celebratio­n sa atong kaigsuunan­g Dabawenyo ug sa mga bisita diha sa Christmas (We are all ready for our Pasko Fiesta celebratio­n and it will be a monthlong celebratio­n with our Dabawenyo brothers and sisters and the visitors in Christmas)," she said.

Duterte-Carpio will lead today the official lighting ceremony at City Hall grounds.

This lighting marks the start of all the Pasko Fiesta activities and contests.

Among the sights and amusements offered by the city during Christmas season are the Pasko Fiesta

val, a month-long amusement rides and freebies for Dabawenyos.

As of November 28, the installati­on of the different rides for the Pasko Fiesta Carnival has started.

Meanwhile, the first day of December also marks the opening of several contests to be participat­ed by different sectors.

These include "Parol sa Barangay," a parol display contests in barangays at Marfori Botanical Garden; "Kahayag sa Davao," a light up competitio­n of establishm­ents; "Pasko Fiesta Davao," variety shows in 11 barangays; "Pasko Pahalipay sa Davao," Santa Claus in Magsaysay Park and People's Park with giveaways; and "Pasko Hulagway," a photo contest.

Other month-long activities include Pasko Fiesta para sa mga Lumad, which will run from December 7 to 20 in an interview yesterday, DuterteCar­pio said that same as last year the Indigenous People's will not gather within the central area but in identified areas in the hinterland areas and that is where all their activities will be held including the gift giving to them.

Another event which will benefit the 11 tribes of the city is the Kan-anan sa Tribo, a food market by the 11 tribes in Magsaysay Park and will start on December 15 to 30.

Aside from these, among the things to look forward to in the city is Pasko Kumbira sa City Hall, Christmas fun for City Hall employees at Rizal Park on December 15.

Other activities include 7th Lesbian Gay Bisexual and Transgende­r (LGBT) Year-end Party for the LGBT community at Azuela Cove, Lanang on December 17; Siyam ka Kaadlawon (Simbang Gabi), early morning masses and native kakanin at San Pedro Cathedral on December 16 to 24.
