AMID the apprehensions of tourists because of the perceived security threats in the city, local authorities assured that law enforcers here are wellequipped and competent to counter any threats to their safety.

“Siguro dili sila angay nga mag-worry kasi napaka-ready at napakaprepared ang lahat ng security forces ng Davao City [They have nothing to worry about because the security forces here are ready],” Police Senior Inspector Ma. Teresita Gaspan, DCPO spokesperson, said.

Although there are no direct threats pointed here in the city, however, they are not discounting the fact that there will always be threats posed by lawless armed groups.

“Meron talagang gustong mag-attempt na mag destroy ng peace natin so I think sa mga gusto maglaag or mag-anhi diri sa Davao, wala silay angay ikabalaka because ang tanan nga security forces are very prepared in terms sa paghatag sa saktong seguridad,” she said.

The security in the city is in coordination with the local enforcers in intensifying the checkpoints, both inner and outer layers, as well as in terms of intelligence monitoring to ensure the safety of the public as well as the tourists.

“Lahat ng ginagawa natin nakatutok sa seguridad for the interest of public safety and security and patuloy tayo kung napapansin niyo meron tayong tinatawag na simex (simultaneous exercise) na ginagawa,” she said.

To ensure the readiness of the cops and authorities, DCPO, in coordination with other law enforcement agencies, is regularly conducting simultaneous exercise as a measure designed to test the level of preparedness of the security personnel in terms of operational and tactical readiness and see areas that may need improvement.

Thus, she again reminded the public to be alert and urged their coIN

operation with the law enforcers.

“The public [should] exercise vigilance kasi crime prevention is everybody’s concern. It cannot be done single-handedly by the police, military and the other security forces,” she said.
