Tourist destinations in city must be spread out, say

- By Jennie P. Arado

TOURISM and dining destinations in the city should be well distributed to the northern and southern parts of the city, and not just in the downtown area, to help ease traffic congestion.

Last Wednesday, November 29, the Damosa Food Festival once again opened and will last until December 2 from 4pm to 11pm. There are around 40 food concessionaires which include Gypsy Café, Classio, Chino’s, The Rosita’s, Haruno Izakaya, Emo’s Kitchen, Zen Sushi, Blackhog, RD Crab Shack, Jalan Loklok and BBQ , Budoy’s Special Buchi, Colasa’s BBQ, Steak ni Juan, Master Sisig, South Wing, and Compass: A World of Food among others.

“Again, we’re very much happy that Damosa Land is gearing on that plan to make this area as one of the tourism destinations. As we spoke with Sir Lagdameo, this is indeed a great help to avoid further congestion of the downtown area. If you’re from north, you can go here. The owners of this assured us that they would help the city with the development,” said committee chair on Tourism and International Relations councilor Al Ryan Alejandre.

He also suggested for private institutions to also build more tourism facilities outside the downtown area in order to distribute the Dabawenyos and tourists in the different parts of the city.

Pasko Fiesta

Alejandre added, as for the city government’s tourism initiative, they made sure that the activities for the Pasko Fiesta will be conducted in the different areas in the city. Pasko Fiesta will open today, December 1 and will last until January 1. The month-long celebration will have various activities which include Parol sa Barangay, Kahayag sa Davao, Pasko Hulagway, Pasko Fiesta para sa mga Lumad, Kan-anan sa Tribo, Pasko Kumbira, and a lot more.

“Pasko Fiesta is intended for the Dabawenyos. We would want to pay back to them through a month-long merrymaking,” Alejandre said.

Last November 16, it was reported that Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio had increased the Pasko Fiesta budget by P17 million. This has increased from last year’s P9 million Pasko Fiesta budget.
