Team Palban is 1st DEBC cage champ
AFTER a long grueling season, Team Palban finally clinched the 1st Davies Engineers Basketball Club (DEBC) crown after pulling off a shock against Team Felizarta 66-54, in the titular clash held last November 21 at the Davao City Recreation Center.
Team Palban prevailed over nine other engineersbannered teams in the event presented by Davies that opened last April 8.
Mark Ranara, who romped away with the most valuable player (MVP) award, swished in 19 points to pace Team Palban that also got sufficient help from Saher Distancia who added 14 points from the field.
Completing Team Palban's roster are Engrs. Leonard Palban, Rolando Ebad, Julius Dan Abule, Rey Salvaleon, Raymond Adolfo, Anthony Asna, Raffy R. Aquino, Jonee Bagaslao, Reneboy Ariola, Juvan Matuguinas and Juliefer Arellano.
Team Felizarta, for its part, relied on lawyer-engineer Joseph Dominic Felizarta who sank 13 points.
Team Felizarta, meanwhile, is bannered by Engrs. Rodel Pingol, Federico Perez III, Buenaventura Mamac, Jan Kevin G. Masicampo, Noel Pascual, Eustac Ian Mangao, Jose Marie Almasa, Antonio Pardillo, Oriel A. Siangco, Ruel Jasme, Jojie Garcia and Ryan Gapusan.
Meantime, Team Villalba spearheaded by Engr. Edgar Villalba salvaged the bronze after posting an 87-78 victory over Engr. Angelito Bitangga's Team Bitangga in the battle for third match.
Other teams competed this season were Engr. Vicente Trangia's Team Trangia, Engr. Ernie Malnegro's Team Malnegro, Alvin Alcantara's Team Alcantara, Engr. Marloue Castillo's Team Castillo, Engr. Hanford Menchavez' Team Menchavez and Engr. Eric Barcelo's Team Barcelo.
Cash prizes and trophies with medals were awarded to the winners.
According to tournament chairman Engr. Jimwell Bonguyan, the cagefest will have a sequel next year right before the "Araw ng Dabaw".
