Cebu Marathon eyes world record

-

CEBU CITY - The 11th Cebu Marathon will attempt a record for the most number of people blowing the whistle to the tune of the Sinulog beat with over 5,000 participating runners at the Cebu Business Park this Sunday.

Every participant will receive a whistle upon check-in and all will be instructed by the emcee to together make the ‘Prititit’ sound, a beat distinctive to Sinulog Festival.

“I think it’s the first time that this will be done simultaneously in the event with over 5,000 people,” said technical director Joel Juarez of Coco Running yesterday.

CERC president Kenneth Casquejo said that they will submit documents on this activity to the Guinness World Records for the most people simultaneously blowing the whistle to the Sinulog beat.

“I have contacted Guinness and they instructed me to submit documents to them after the event,” he said.

The Cebu Marathon, organized by CERC, will have a record-number of runners in the 42-kilometer and 21K categories with 1,895 and 2,200 registered participants.

A total of 5,081 runners will grace the event including the 446 and 550 participants in the 10K and 5K categories.

The race kit claiming has started last Wednesday. The participants can claim the race kit until Saturday at the Vibo Place-the Courtyard in Escario St., Cebu City.

More than 60 percent of the race kit has been claimed. Juarez reminds the participants to bring the requirements for race kit claiming.

Organizers will also require ID for the runners while an authorization letter and the photocopy of the runners ID are needed for proxy claimants.

“So far the race kit claiming is going smoothly. We’d like to remind the runners to claim their race kit early. We will be until 6 p.m. in Vibo Place this Saturday,” said Juarez.

The run will kick off with the 42K runners at 3 a.m. this Sunday, followed by 21K at 4 a.m. and then the 10K and 5K categories. RSC
