DENR 11 lauds private group's support
THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources Region (DENR) XI recently received two (2) units of electric and hybrid vehicles and an electric vehicle quick charging station from Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) as part of their partnership in promoting clean energy and environmental protection.
These said 2 units are Outlander PHEV (plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle) and i-MiEV electric vehicle.
Gracing the turn-over ceremony held at DENR-XI Regional Office in Lanang, Davao City are DENR Regional Director Ruth M. Tawantawan, MMC President and CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri and Davao City Councilor Danilo C. Dayanghirang who represented Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio.
The Outlander PHEV, iMiEV and EV quick charger are part of the donation made by MMC to DENR last June 2017 wherein five (5) units of Outlander PHEV, five (5) units of i-MiEV and four (4) units of EV quick chargers were delivered to DENR Central Office in Quezon City.
MMC President and CEO Mutsuhiro Oshikiri said in his message during the short program that the turn-over of the electric vehicles and EV Charging Station is the result of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) and DENR last February 2017 in which MMC under its corporate social responsibility program vowed to support DENR’s environmental projects which aims to reduce carbon footprints. As such, MMC also aims to promote electric and hybrid vehicle technology.
“We are elated that our i-MiEV and Outlander PHEV have finally reached the shores of Mindanao. We are positive that this will help promote MMC’s future projects for electric vehicles in the country and encourage more Filipinos to patronize the next generation cars,” he said.
President Oshikiri also said that he is looking forward to more environmental projects with DENR. He further encouraged everyone to continue to strive and do their part for a cleaner and healthier environment not only for today’s generation but most importantly, the future generation.
On the other hand, Director Ruth M. Tawantawan expressed her gratitude to MMPC and to DENR Secretary Roy A. Cimatu for the turn-over of the vehicles and the quick charging station to DENR Davao Region. She stressed that the vehicles and charging station came at a right time because the Region needed additional vehicles to help achieve its growing targets for this year and the succeeding years.
“These alternative vehicles actively reduce the amount of carbon emitted into the environment and I say, any technology that actively reduces the amount of carbon created is welcome in the city declared as Air Quality Champion,” she stressed.
Director Tawantawan also emphasized that DENR, being the primary agency tasked in the management of the environment, tries its best to be pioneers in the use of sustainable energy and other ecologically-sound practices to model the principles that it preaches.
“We are glad that with this partnership, we can be among the first to use electric and hybrid vehicles in the city so that we can encourage more agencies, offices and people to invest in these alternative vehicles,” she said.
Moreover, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte Carpio through Councilor Dayanghirang congratulated the partnership for the turnover of the electronic vehicles and quick charging station which is another marking in environmental revolution.
She also commended MMPC for its initiative to push the technology of hybrid and pure electric vehicles in alignment with government’s campaign to reduce and prevent environmental pollution in the country.
“It is my hope that this technology will flourish as it not only benefit the environment but shall also promote better health for Filipinos. It is also my hope that this is just the beginning of a series of environmental initiatives to benefit not only this age but also the generations to come,” the Mayor stressed. (DENR-XI PR)
