2 killed, 15 nabbed in anti-drug ops

-

SINCE the resumption of the anti-illegal drug operation of the Philippine National Police (PNP) last December 5, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 11 noted two persons were killed and a total of 15 drug personalities arrested across Davao Region.

Police Chief Inspector Andrea dela Cerna, PRO 11 spokesperson, said that 27 police operations were conducted throughout the region.

Of the 27, Davao City Police Office (DCPO) launched 13 operations, 12 in Davao del Norte Provincial Police Office (DNPPO), one in Davao del Sur Provincial Police Office (DSPPO) and one in Compostela Valley Provincial Polic Office (CVPPO).

Of the 15 arrested drug personalities, two were arrested by DCPO, 11 in DNPPO, one in DSPPO, and one in Compostela Valley.

Only in Davao City where there were drug personalities who were killed during the legitimate drug operations after the suspects allegedly resisted arrest and fired upon the operatives.

“This shows that the PNP is really back on track in anti-illegal operations. But right now we are still waiting for the directive sa pagbabalik ng Tokhang,” she said, referring to their knock and plea project of suspected drug personali-

ties in their respective houses for a bloodless operation.

But the guideline on anti-illegal drug operations has already cascaded in active coordination with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) which is the lead agency in drug enforcement.

Dela Cerna said that under the supplemental guidelines includes the activation of Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) of police who will be the sole team authorized to conduct such operations. Before these personnel were selected to be part of the unit, they underwent thorough screening to ensure that they do not have derogatory records.

There will also be an oversight committee who will monitor, on a weekly basis, the performance of the personnel at the same time a periodical assessment for drug enforcement units.

“From time to time ia-asses po natin ang performance ng ating mga personnel, at the same time we will have a counterintelligence task force who will monitor our PNP personnel para ma-check kung sino ang nagkakaroon ng involvement sa mga [irregularities] so magkakaroon ng vetting process,” she said.
