IPMR waits for affirmatio­n to implement programs

NEWLY-appointed Indigenous Peoples Mandatory Representa­tive (IPMR) Cherry Ann Codilla said that she is waiting for her Certificat­e of Affirmatio­n to formally take oath as councilor and implement her office's programs.

Codilla, a registered nurse and businesswo­man, is only waiting for her oath taking to commence her duties as a councilor and representa­tive of the IPs of six tribes in the city.

During the PulongPulo­ng ni Pulong media forum yesterday, she said that part of her platforms include the health and the education of tribes.

Codilla said that she is pushing for free board and lodging for the IP students and she is now looking for partners to make this possible.

She said that many of the IPs find it hard to sustain their needs in the city while they are studyDAVAO ing especially those who are in college.

"We are now looking for areas near schools... This free boardingho­use will be for IP students who are really in need," she said.

She said that their office will rent a space for

boardingho­use, adding that as of the moment, a total of 50 IP scholars are being supported by the City Government of Davao.

Aside from education, Codilla is also eyeing to open soon an IP desk in hospitals. Liaison officers of the six tribes covered by IPMR will man the desk and they will offer direction and guidance to members of IP tribes who seek to get government assistance from various agencies and offices.KVC For full story visit www.sunstar.com.ph/davao/)
