NPA member surrenders
A member of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA) surrendered to troops of 8th Infantry Battalion (8IB) at Sabangan Patrol Base, Barangay San Luis, Malitbong, Bukidnon, on Monday, May 7.
According to the information given to SunStar Davao, yesterday, May 8, the surrenderer was identified as Anaclito Sanugan Sagula Jr. alias Jepy, 32, a resident of Purok 1, Barangay Hagpa, Impasugong, Bukidnon.
He also surrendered an AK47 rifle and three magazines loaded with 88 ammunition to the security forces.
"I was with the NPA group during the encounter last May 4 at Sitio Victory,” Sagula said.
Commanding Officer of 8th Infantry Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Illana said that the surrenderer will undergo an interview and they are coordinating with the local government of Malitbog and Bukidnon to process the psychosocial intervention from the provincial DSWD and the assistance of Comprehensive Integration Program (Clip) from the provincial DILG (Department of the Interior and Local Government).
“Under the Clip, a regular NPA surrenderer will receive immediate cash assistance of P15,000 and a livelihood assistance of P50,000. He will also receive corresponding amount for the firearm he surrendered depending on the serviceability upon
the evaluation of the Clip committee of Bukidnon,” Ronald Illana said.
Currently, the troops are exerting all efforts to locate the family of Sagula to inform them on the current situation of the NPA surrenderer.
“We will make sure that the family of Sagula will be informed on his whereabouts. I am very sure they wanted to see him. On the other hand, I congratulate the 8th Infantry Battalion on the continuous efforts exerted in their area of responsibility just to ensure that the Bukidnons will eventually experience the peace and development they long to achieve,” said Commander of the 403rd Infantry Brigade, Brigadier General Eric Vinoya.
4th Infantry Division commander Major General Ronald Villanueva, for his part, urged the remaining members of CPPNPA members to surrender and lay down their arms.
