Failure of polls unlikely to happen

-

THERE are no areas in Davao region that failure of Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections (BSKE) will likely to happen, a Commission on Elections (Comelec) 11 official said.

Lawyer Krisna Samantha Caballero, Comelec 11 regional election attorney and spokesperson, said during a press forum at The Royal Mandaya Hotel that during their close coordination with security forces, they have not recorded barangays in Davao region where failure of election will most likely to happen

due to threat of violence. “Wala naman po tayong balita kasi wala naman tayong areas na nasa delikado. Alam mo naman ang failure of election is only based on the failure to vote by reason of terrorism or medyo delikado na mga lugar. So far naman with close coordination with PNP and AFP, wala nga tayong categoty 4 so I think it will push through, go na siya, walang failure,” Caballero said.

Under category 4, the Comelec may place under its immediate and direct control and supervision any political division, subdivision, unit or area if there are history of current intense rivalry among the contending parties, violence may be facilitated by private armed group, unqualified individuals carrying loose firearms and serious armed threats posed by terrorist groups.

However, she hopes that it remains that way “cause we’ll never know what will happen on that day.” (For full story visit www.sunstar.com.ph/davao/)
