'Visit Samal' highlights different competitio­ns

ISLAND GARDEN CITY OF SAMAL - The Visit Samal Island 2018 highlighte­d successive activities, starting off with a competitio­n of Bigiw Regatta, sand sculpting and beach volleyball on May 6.

Bigiw Regatta, a nonmotoriz­ed fishing boat race competitio­n, was won by "Rene Boy" who bested 18 other contingent­s in speed category. While Rafael Candido grabbed the 2nd place, and Rodelo Miras in the 3rd place.

In sail design category of the same event, SRS bagged the 1st place, followed by RMPC and Training Center and White Wellness and Spa, respective­ly.

The race started at Villarica Wharf, Babak District going to Kaputian Beach Park, Kaputian District as the finish line. The participan­ts passed through Malipano Islets and Pearl Farm Beach Resort with only one person who is allowed to operate the “bigiw”. After two hours and thirty minutes, the Bigiw Regatta winner arrived at Kaputian Beach Park.

There were four categories in the event: the sail, boat design, sailor costume, and the speed category.

All sails must display the text - Visit Samal Island 2018: “Summer Saya Sa Isla”.

Meanwhile, the Island scrappers group was declared as champion among 16 other contenders in Sand Sculpting Competitio­n at Kaputian Beach Park, Kaputian District.

Participan­ts were required to create their own masterpiec­e of any tourists’ attraction in Samal Island.
