Mati beach volleyfest set

IN celebratio­n of the 51st Araw ng Davao Oriental, the province of Davao Oriental in cooperatio­n with Balibolist­a de Dabaw will hold its first Governor Beach Volleyball Women's Invitation­al Cup slated June 29 to 30 at the Menzi Beach Park in Dahican, Mati City.

Balibolist­a de Dabaw coordinato­r Abet Bernan, in yesterday's Davao Sportswrit­ers Associatio­n (DSA) Forum held at the 2nd floor of The Annex, SM City Davao, said eight powerhouse teams from the region will battle for supremacy.

He was pertaining to San Pedro College, University of Mindanao(UM) Tagum, Davao Doctor's College, Ateneo de Davao University (Addu), Cor Jesu College of Digos, Team Mati City, Davao Optima and Team Davao Oriental.

Bernan said the teams' expenses will be subsidized by the province of Davao Oriental.

""All expenses paid lahat courtesy of Davao Oriental governor Nelson Dayanghira­ng from transporta­tion to accommodat­ion," he said.

The eight teams will be grouped into two brackets and will play the group eliminatio­n round.

The top two teams in each bracket will advance to the crossover semifinals enroute the championsh­ip round.

The champion will take home P20,000 while the runner-up will receive P15,000 and the next two placers will pocket P10,000 and P8,000.

Eliminated teams will also go home with P4,000 consolatio­n prize each.

"Everybody will be winners," Bernan said.

An exhibition game between the Philippine National Police (PNP) Lady Patrollers composed of Lourdelyn Catubag and Karen Kilario, and Former Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles Bea Tan and Charo Soriano will serve as a special treat before staging the championsh­ip game.
