AUTHORITIES are still investigating whose body was found Wednesday, July 11, during the demolition of the New City Commercial Center (NCCC) Mall Davao along McArthur Highway in Matina, Davao City.

Reicel Tobio, a nonuniformed police personnel of Talomo Police Station, said the update as to the body found inside the mall was still negative as of this writing.

She added that the investigation is ongoing.

"The authorities could not yet give any update about this matter," Tobio said, adding that they are also waiting for a family or relative who probably lost someone to appear and file a report at the office.

According to the Police Regional Crime Laboratory Office (RCLO) in Davao, the cadaver is currently placed at the Angel Funeral Homes for autopsy. Not a single person has so far arrived to check on the body.

The NCCC Mall Davao, meanwhile, said in a statement that the body was recovered in the mall’s third floor.

It said upon validating with the contractor, they immediately secured the area and informed Interagency Task Force and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) regarding this matter.

The BFP, members of the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the

Scene of the Crime Operatives (Soco) were on site Wednesday for proper investigation and transfer of the body to a safe place.

"Right now we are focused on ensuring proper identification of the body and preserving the dignity of the deceased. Updates and queries on this matter will be addressed by the BFP-Davao," the NCCC Mall Davao said.

The cadaver was recovered after six months and 20 days since the tragic mall fire incident.
