DA,NFA revive brgy rice outlets

-

The Department of Agriculture 11 (DA11) in partnership with the National Food Authority (NFA) revived its rice retail outlets for the Barangay Food Terminals (BFT) in the region.

Ricardo Oñate Jr., DA 11 OIC-Regional Director said the agency is hopeful that NFA can supply all outlets of BFT’s across the region and provide consumers access to affordable rice.

BFT is a barangay-based food depot and distribution system complementing “talipapa” in selling agri-fishery commodities to low income groups in barangays.

The BFT project comprises direct marketing of fresh agrifishery products from food producers to the BFT where it will be sold on a wholesale and retail basis, at a price lower than the prevailing wholesale and retail prices in the market, to its target communities or consumers.

“We assure you that DA will always address issues and concerns pertaining to the BFT’s. As long as there is a way for us to help, DA will be there,” Oñate adds.

Of the nine BFT’s in Davao City, the Tamugan Women’s Rural Improvement Club BFT was the first to avail itself of rice allocation of 30 bags per week.

Mila Relampagos, BFT manager said the NFA rice is sold at P27.00/kilo and each family are allowed to buy at least three kilos per day.

“Nakatabang gyud sa amo ang initiative sa DA ug NFA kay daghang pamilya ang makapalit niini ug dako ang nareduce na presyo sa bugas,” Relampagos added. CHE D. PALICTE, DA-XI
