Secuya holds exhibit at Waterfront Hotel
Local arts and culture take center stage at Waterfront Insular Hotel Davao as the hotel-resort holds a 10-day exhibit on August 10 to 20, 2018 to preview Visual Artist and Essayist Victor Secuya’s upcoming art installation in Saint-Josse-ten-Noode, Brussels.
Titled “Memories of my father’s farm”, the exhibit will feature 10 abstract acrylic paintings which Secuya regards as his works in their fullest sense. A tribute to his father, a businessman-landowner, the imageries in his recent work present the myths of his childhood. It shows his well-refined sensitivity to colors and penchant for organic shapes. “Painting these memories is kind of tying my past to my present and perhaps my future. Conjuring them out of my mind was an adventure, and I’ve never felt as bold and free while working on the canvas. In my 40 years of art making, these are the kind of paintings that I deeply feel authentically mine,” Secuya said.
Throughout his productive career as an artist, Victor Secuya has had 24 solo exhibits across the country and several group shows in various galleries abroad. However, the Belgium Exhibit is his first solo installation by invitation as part of a celebration of the Philippines-Belgium relations.
Select invitees from the media and the artist’s social circle are to be invited to an exclusive first preview and book launch on August 9. The Cocktail-to-Dinner event will highlight some local delicacies and special offers for the Kadayawan Festival season as well as performances by Kuntaw Mindanao, a multi-disciplinary group of artists known for their flair in music and the arts. /
