Durian in South Davao hits P40/kg

Prices of durian have dropped in areas near durian farms, particularly in south of city.

With the growing harvest for the durian fruit in the southern part of Davao City, the prices of durian has dropped to P40 per kilogram (kg).

“Kay tungod pud nga ting-season na pud niya karun ug mas pahapitay napud mahuman ang August, mao tung mas mubaba ra pud iyang presyo (Because it’s also the season of durian and the month of August is about to end that’s why there is also a decrease in price),” durian vendor Ren Millon said on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at Mintal, Davao City.

Millon added most of their supply came from farms in Mintal and in Tugbok district.

“Mao pud tung makaingun-ani pud mi ug price kay mas duol pud ang mga gipangkuhaan namo. Pero kung muaabot pud ni siya sa downtown mulahi na pud ang presyo (That’s why we can also have this price because we are nearer from where we are getting the durian. But if these were brought downtown the prices will also vary),” Millon said.

For durian vendor Ken Rama from Catalunan Grande, the lowered price of P40 may even reach most of the durian selling posts in downtown area.

“Pero di sa na mubaba sa downtown jud na pareho ani diraa kababa ang presyo basin sa sunod bulan kay mas jud daghan bunga (But the lowered price won’t reach downtown yet unlike here, maybe, next month when there are more produce),” Rama said.

Durian prices at Bangkerohan still remained at P60/kg to P80/kg as of Saturday, August 18, 2018.

MACKY LIM STILL EXPENSIVE. Despite a drop in the prices of durian in the Southern parts of the city, the fruit remains highly priced at P60 to P80 per kilogram in the downtown areas.
