Prices of red chili, commonly known as sili, and other kinds chili are pegged at P100 to P250 per kilogram (kg) at the Bankerohan Public Market, Davao City.

This is far from the P1,000/ kg price of the chili that went viral on social media and reported by some news outfits in the past week. The P1,000/kg price of the chili is reported to be in Luzon.

“Dili man kayo apektado hinuon ang presyo sa mga sili diria sa Davao kumpara katung sa kataas nga presyo sa Luzon (The prices of red chili peppers here in Davao are not that affected compared to the high prices of chili in Luzon),” Lilibeth Venzal, a chili vendor for 20 years at Bankerohan Public Market said on Monday, September 17, 2018.

Venzal said the prices of the red chili in Davao will only be affected when hit by extreme weather conditions like rain or excessive drought.

“Pag magbagyo man gud dira pud maapektuhan ang bunga sa mga sili (When the storm hits then there it will affect the production of chili),” Venzal said

Presently, the prices of red chili range from P100/kg to P250/ kg depending on the variant.

Sili halang prices is at P250/ kg while sili kulikot prices at P100/kg. The price of kulikot this week is much lower thant its P200/kg last week. Sili labuyo is currently pegged at P200/kg.

“Ang kaning sili halang gikan ni Laak, Compostela Valley. Ang sili kulikot gikan Marilog, Marahan (The sili halang comes from Laak, Compostela Valley, while kulikot comes from Marilog and Marahan),” Venzal said.

Venzal added when chili planters come to sell their produce every Tuesday, the price of the chili is expected to go lower.

She said they are left with no choice but also to decrease their prices in order to meet with the competition.

Then, price for sili halang on that day is at P200/kg while sili kulikot is at P90/kg to P95/kg.
