Commendable programs for progress

- Fe HIDALGO

Telus International Philippines (TIP) is funding health, education, and environmental projects to the communities of non-profit and charitable organizations, which will apply as beneficiary to the grant in line with their organization’s commitment.

The TIP Community Board distributes up to $100,000 every year. Since 2012, TIP has donated over $600,000 to help 66 advocacy projects and programs relevant to health ,education, arts and culture, technology, and values formation in the country.

One grant was given to the Philippine Association for Citizens with Developmental and Learning Disabilities Inc. A workshop in reducing illiteracy among children with disabilities was given a grant. Other grantees include projects on crop production for banana and organic black rice farmers film productions for the youth and the education of indigenous tribal people. All these projects create and amplify their positive social impact. All interested organizations are invited to apply for a grant from the Telus Community Board for year 2018 .

Another commendable organization is the Science, Engineering, Technology, and Innovation (SETI), which plays a crucial role for sustainable development of the country.

For this noble work, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Orgaization (Unesco) implemented the facility for the projects of the governments of Asia and the Pacific.

In the Philippines, Davao City was identified as the pilot site where SETI infrastructure capacity needs to be strengthened. The Davao City project is entitled “Fostering Partnerships in Accelerating the SETI Frameworks Towards Attainment of SDG in Southern Philippines.” The goals are good health and well-being, clean water and sanitation, affordable and clean energy, industry innovation and infrastructure, sustainable cities and communities, climate action, life below Wwter, life on land, and partnerships for all the goals. The Help Davao Network and Unesco will have a network of volunteers from the region to sucçsfully accomplish the goals .

This reminds me of my book, “Sustainable Development - Every Filipino’s Concern, Let’s Help Save the Earth”, which I wrote year 2000. It won the Google’s Book for Environment and Conservation and was reprinted verbatim on the internet from front to back covers.
