Compostela Valley Province – Governor Jayvee Tyron Uy is now using the P12 million prize the province received during the National Rice Achievers Awards from the Malacañang through the Department of Agriculture (DA) to help the rice farmers cooperatives.
As of the moment, there are two rice cooperatives who benefitted as the provincial government lent it to them without interest.
Rice program coordinator Mary Jane Jaom of Comval Pagro said the first rice farmer cooperative to benefit from the said prize money was the Libasan Primary Multi-Purpose Cooperative who received a P1 million check from the governor last April 2018.
The cooperative will pay the said loan in two years time, excluding the six-month grace period given by the province to ensure that the amount would help the cooperative in any way.
The second recipient was the Compostela Valley Irrigators Producers Cooperative (CVIPCO) who received last September 3 a P1.5 million from the province and another P2 million cash grant which was given by the DA regional office 11.
The rice farmer cooperatives was strengthened in Comval by Gov. Tyron Uy and SP members led by Vice Gov. Manuel “Way” Kurat Zamora and Senior Board Member Arturo “Chiongkee” Uy.
The province became the recipient of the National Rice Achiever Awards as it strengthened its agricultural programs in its aim at increasing and expanding the farmers’ output every year through the various agricultural interventions provided to the farmers under the strengthened “Rice Sufficiency Program”.
The 2016 National Rice Achievers Awards was the most recent rice achiever award received by the province through Pagro Chief Dr. Rolando Simene and SP members Macario Humol and Majority Leader Joseph Jaoud during the awarding ceremony held at the Philippine International Convention Center in Pasay City, Manila last May 23, 2017. /
