Better learning environments

-

Elementary school teacher Carly John Condino went viral on social media over a week ago after he posted a photo of his colorful and comfortable classroom.

Boring chairs were painted white and colorful pillows were placed on each chair. The once dull classroom became more welcoming and appealing to students.

However, Condino said that this was merely aesthetics. The main purpose of this was to ensure that the students will not transfer from one chair to another.

His simple solution to the problem of kids transferring to different seats resulted to a more comfortable classroom and improved the interest of his students.

Condino showed that as an educator, he is ready to do his part in helping improve the learning environment of the student.

His actions serve as example to many teachers that there are times that you have to think outside of the box to help improve the learning environment of the students.

Building classrooms, improving teacher-student ratio, new teaching techniques, and other initiatives to teach students are not enough. Their learning environment must also be better to ensure that they really absorb what is being taught to them.

The Department of Education (Deped) might have to review its education system in the public schools. Teachers are hounded with lots of paperwork while students receive a barrage of lessons, assignments, and projects.

However, it seems like the education department failed when it comes to the learning environment of the students. If you visit the public schools you can observe that classrooms could use a facelift.

Deped may say that they have budget constraints but with the help of the parents they can improve the learning environment of the children... When they ask the parents nicely and explain to them the benefits of whatever they plan to do.

Likewise, creative freedom must be given to teachers on how they improve the learning environment on their students. Teachers who spend their daily routine with the students will know how to handle their class and therefore, know how they can make the classroom more conducive.

Our future generation needs a better learning environment, one that is comfortable and conducive to learning. It is time that we tap into the creativity of the teachers to help our students.
