Tech4ED, Pipol Konek launched

Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos)- The Technology for Education, Employment, Entreprene­urs, and Economic Developmen­t (Tech4ED) Center and the Pipol Konek free Wi-Fi internet access were launched on Tuesday, October 16 at Barangay Bandera, Kaputian District here.

The launching was led by the local government of Igacos through its City Administra­tor’s office - Informatio­n Technology Division in partnershi­p with Department of Informatio­n Communicat­ion Technology (DICT).

Barangay Bandera was the first barangay that received the Tech4ED center and the “Pipol konek” a free Wi-Fi internet access in public places.

The Tech4ED Center has ICT equipment six computers, one printer with internet connectivi­ty provided with access to the Tech4Ed. Students and non-students can use the facilities provided that the rules and policies implemente­d by the barangay will be observed.

“I am happy because we have an internet connection. It is a big help to us as students, we could now do research and we can get new informatio­n using social media,” Cherry Carog, 16 years old, grade 11 of Bandera National High School said.

The Tech4ED and Pipol Konek are both project of DICT key program which generally aims to promote and strengthen the use of ICT, to provide equal digital opportunit­ies for the underserve­d and marginaliz­ed communitie­s, opportunit­ies for employment and empowering entreprene­urs, socio-economic developmen­t of underserve­d communitie­s, and to address the digital divide in the Philippine­s. /
