Tech4ED, Pipol Konek launched
Island Garden City of Samal (Igacos)- The Technology for Education, Employment, Entrepreneurs, and Economic Development (Tech4ED) Center and the Pipol Konek free Wi-Fi internet access were launched on Tuesday, October 16 at Barangay Bandera, Kaputian District here.
The launching was led by the local government of Igacos through its City Administrator’s office - Information Technology Division in partnership with Department of Information Communication Technology (DICT).
Barangay Bandera was the first barangay that received the Tech4ED center and the “Pipol konek” a free Wi-Fi internet access in public places.
The Tech4ED Center has ICT equipment six computers, one printer with internet connectivity provided with access to the Tech4Ed. Students and non-students can use the facilities provided that the rules and policies implemented by the barangay will be observed.
“I am happy because we have an internet connection. It is a big help to us as students, we could now do research and we can get new information using social media,” Cherry Carog, 16 years old, grade 11 of Bandera National High School said.
The Tech4ED and Pipol Konek are both project of DICT key program which generally aims to promote and strengthen the use of ICT, to provide equal digital opportunities for the underserved and marginalized communities, opportunities for employment and empowering entrepreneurs, socio-economic development of underserved communities, and to address the digital divide in the Philippines. /
