FARMERS’ DAY, A SUCCESS
Samal is gearing towards developing its agriculture sector along with tourism.
Island Garden City of Samal Another successful Farmers’ Day celebration was pulled off by the City Agriculture’s Office at Samal Cultural Gymnasium on October 15, 2018.
The celebration was centered on the theme: “Kung may gulay, may buhay”.
It was participated by the different sector such as the Rural Improvement Club, Farmers Association, Committee Chairman on Agriculture in the different Barangays, and of course farmers in the city.
During the celebration, display and selling of agricultural products by the three districts of Babak, Samal and Kaputian of the city was one of the highlights.
Technology updates on agriculture was also presented.
There are also various competitions set on asexual propagation (grafting), singing, modern dance, parlor games etc. was also participated by the participants.
“City Mayor Al David T. Uy will set up a local college and one of its reasons is to go back into farming or agriculture. Samal is an agricultural area but only few farmers left. We can have farming as one of our tourism destination in Samal. Through the active participation of farmers in their association, they can make an advocacy to improve farming through a flower, vegetable farming or organic farming,” City Administrator, lawyer Rosemarie B. Garde said.
The celebration culminates with the awarding of prizes for those participants who joined and won the different competitions. /
