FARMERS’ DAY, A SUCCESS

Samal is gearing towards developing its agricultur­e sector along with tourism.

Island Garden City of Samal Another successful Farmers’ Day celebratio­n was pulled off by the City Agricultur­e’s Office at Samal Cultural Gymnasium on October 15, 2018.

The celebratio­n was centered on the theme: “Kung may gulay, may buhay”.

It was participat­ed by the different sector such as the Rural Improvemen­t Club, Farmers Associatio­n, Committee Chairman on Agricultur­e in the different Barangays, and of course farmers in the city.

During the celebratio­n, display and selling of agricultur­al products by the three districts of Babak, Samal and Kaputian of the city was one of the highlights.

Technology updates on agricultur­e was also presented.

There are also various competitio­ns set on asexual propagatio­n (grafting), singing, modern dance, parlor games etc. was also participat­ed by the participan­ts.

“City Mayor Al David T. Uy will set up a local college and one of its reasons is to go back into farming or agricultur­e. Samal is an agricultur­al area but only few farmers left. We can have farming as one of our tourism destinatio­n in Samal. Through the active participat­ion of farmers in their associatio­n, they can make an advocacy to improve farming through a flower, vegetable farming or organic farming,” City Administra­tor, lawyer Rosemarie B. Garde said.

The celebratio­n culminates with the awarding of prizes for those participan­ts who joined and won the different competitio­ns. /
