Five individual­s tried to bribe a police officer but were instead caught DCPO director Tagum said incident highlights the honor of cops

Five individual­s were arrested inside a police station in Davao City after they allegedly bribed a police officer for the release of their family members who were nabbed for involvemen­t in illegal drugs.

Davao City Police Office (DCPO) director, Police Senior Superinten­dent Alexander Tagum said that around 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, elements of San Pedro Police Station led by Senior Police Officer (SPO2) Rizalito Clapiz III under the direct supervisio­n of the Station Commander Police Chief Inspector Benkalin Baluan conducted

an entrapment operation at San Pedro Police Station.

The target of the operation were Menchie Magangcong Gutierrez, 40, female, married and a resident of Purok 2, Lubugan Toril, Davao City,; Linny Gallardo Banate, 40, female, married; Badron Magangcong Lumabo, 35, male, married and a resident of Marapangi 3, Toril, Davao City; Alinor Alawi Lumabao, 19, male, single and a resident of Marapangi 3, Toril, Davao City; and Manuel Trinchera Gutierrez, 47, male, married and a resident of Purok 2, Lubugan Toril, Davao City who tried to offer the cop a P100,000 bribe for the freedom of two drug suspects.

The two suspects were identified as Normana Jarlata Magangcong and Mats Amerel Macabayao who were apprehende­d during a buy bust operation on Friday morning.

“After they connived and confederat­ed in handing over the bribed money amounting to P100,000 to a police officer in exchange for the immediate release of the previously arrested drug suspects,” Tagum said.

After the operation, recovered from one of the suspects was a bundle of money worth P50,000. Likewise, the apprehende­d suspects along with the seized/recovered pieces of evidence are now in the custody of San Pedro police station for proper dispositio­n.

“[This incident shows that] obviously we cannot be bribed by these criminals. We value our honor than the bribe they offer. That is the kind of present leaders that we have in our Police Stations,” Tagum said.
