The Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) said that it will offer a hundred percent waiver on unpaid penalties and surcharges to housing buyers and borrowers with past due accounts.

The new branch manager of GSIS Davao, Diety Manampan, during the Kapihan sa PIA last Friday, October 26, 2018, said that they are also willing to settle their housing obligations in full in the GSIS Financial Assistance Loan (GFAL) program for Department of Education (DepEd) teachers.

“Ang GFAL ay may sariling deadline on [for submission of application] December 31. It is a program for DepEd, for teachers na naman, sila na naman binigyan ng special consideration dito,” he said.

“Kung Ikaw yung teacher at may utang ka sa private, bibilhin ng GSIS yan. We extended the term to six years para mas bumaba yung amortization mas lalaki yung sweldo mo. That’s the basic nung GFAL,” he added.

Manampan said this will help teachers get higher takehome pay through the lower monthly loan payments.

The program is open to active or inactive members, as well as nonmembers, with deeds of conditional sale or real estate loan accounts that are in arrears or default.

Manampan said that only accounts that have not yet been cancelled nor foreclosed are eligible for condonation.
