Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Carlito Galvez Jr. said lifting of martial law is still under assessment as there are still terorrism threats in Mindanao.
During the Mindanao Media and Security Summit in Davao City on October 26, 2018, Galvez said that there are still ongoing operations in Mindanao-conflict areas.
“Ang nakita natin, nandun pa rin ang threat ng terrorism,” Galvez said in an interview with reporters.
He further said that the communist rebels’ ‘Red October’, a plot to oust Duterte, will be part of their discussions.
“Red October is also one thing that is still continuing, the ouster and the aklasan, and also the different oplans,” he said.
Galvez also said they will work with the different mayors and governors so they could also have their propositions and formal take on the issue of martial law.
Galvez arrived at the venue on the second day of the summit at around 3 p.m. to talk about the safety of media during coverages.
He also promised to protect the media practitioners and uphold the freedom of the press as the AFP and the media have one common role and that is to serve the public. /
