Incumbent Davao City first District Representative Karlo Alexei Nograles backed the candidacy of former vice may- or Paolo Duterte for the congressional seat next year, citing that he is qualified to take over his post.

In an interview with Nograles, he expressed his full support for the Presidential son as the later is running for the congressional seat in 2019 after he filed his certificate of candidacy.

“Paolo served Davao City in various capacities from Barangay Kapitan to ABC (Association of the Barangay Captains) President and Vice Mayor in Davao City so he’s very qualified to be congressman of the first district,” Nograles said.

He added, “I’m sure na during his term as congressman in Davao City, he will do a lot for our first district.”

Nograles didn’t file a certificate of candidacy for any post this year. His term will end in June 2019 but he said that although he will no longer hold any government post, he will remain supportive to the administration of President Rodrigo Duterte just as how he supported the administration of Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio.

“I am also supporting the candidacy of Baste Duterte for Vice Mayor, Paolo Duterte for first district congressman and lahat naman ito ginagawa natin para mapadayon nato ang maayong paglambo sa (to continue the development of) Davao City and peace and unity in Davao City will remain and continue,” Nograles said.

Asked whether there was a post in the government agencies that was offered to him by the President, he said that there was no formal offer yet but said he will always remain supportive of the administration in any capacity.
