LGUs as potent partners in education

- Lorenzo E. MENDOZA

With local government units (LGUs) as our partners, in promoting quality basic education for all, surely the endeavour will not fail. Our beautiful plans and their moral and financial support will make difference, more than what we expect to happen.

They are not our competitor nor a threat to us but they are more than just our friends and partners thinking the way we think and want only the best for their constituents, our learners, teachers and school heads included.

This was once again proven as true when DepEd Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones underscored anew the importance of cooperation and partnership with the local government unit (LGU) and the community in bringing to the ground the various programs and projects of the Department.

The DepEd Secretary is always doing this during occasions that permit her time to visit schools and learning centers and other education related projects in the entire country.

The Secretary said that one of the most important secrets to success for a school and a school system is cooperation – that is the support coming from the LGU and the community. She added that the LGUs in the provinces, cities and municipalities in the country have not failed in helping DepEd in the provision of quality basic education for our learners.

Since LGUs have been providing school buildings and other facilities to schools she reiterated that the assistance of the teachers, school heads, and other partners in maintaining the newly constructed building is needed as their contribution and gratitude to the LGUs that provided great support to education.

She said the above in the scenario that everyone of us all know that every year, we face continuous demands for more classrooms to cater to new learners.

The Secretary even hopes that they will take good care of the different school building and facilities and treat them as their own homes.

She concluded that when all of us work together, whatever our histories and backgrounds are, our goal must be to deliver the basic education our learners truly deserve – that is a legacy that we can give to them.

This Corner hopes that all our efforts to advance the plight of our learners will be sustained through partnership and mutual cooperation in all endeavours.
