Airline to fly four times weekly flights between Davao City and Hong Kong

The Davao-Hongkong direct flight is eyed to increase more tourists in Davao City, a Chinese foreign minister said.

Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi underscore­d the large opportunit­y which the direct flight of Davao to Hongkong will open in terms of benefittin­g the current economic progress of Davao city.

“I believe more Chinese visitors will come to Davao to enhance the friendship between our two people and contribute to the developmen­t of the city and the Southern Philippine­s,” Wang Yi said on Sunday, October 29, 2018 during the inaugurati­on of the Chinese Consulate office in Davao City.

Wang Yi added the direct flight will also help inform Chinese tourists about the renowned safety which Davao City prides itself.

The direct flight was launched by Cathay Pacific Group on October 28, 2018 at the Davao Internatio­nal Airport. This is also Cathay’s first nonstop flight launching in Davao city.

Under the Cathay Pacific Group regional airline, Cathay Dragon, the airline has introduced a four-time weekly service from Hong Kong to Davao City and vice versa.

With the new flight service, the direct flight provides customers from Mindanao, specifical­ly Davao Region more options in connecting through Cathay’s hub to over 200 destinatio­ns around the world.

“We are happy to extend Cathay’s signature airline experience to people from Davao and the rest of Mindanao. We hope that this route makes it easier for more people from around the world to discover the beauty, history and potential of Mindanao,” Cathay Pacific chief customer and commercial officer Paul Loo said in a statement.

The flight schedules for the Hong Kong Davao City (DVO) service from October 28, 2018 are as follows: Flight KA347 HKG-DVO 1235/1550 and KA348 DVO-HKG 1650/2000 are on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

The average airfare for flights to Hong Kong are at $168 or around P9,000.
