Thief killed in po­lice ops

An al­leged theft sus­pect was killed while two other co­horts are still at large dur­ing an armed con­fronta­tion yes­ter­day dawn at Lapu-Lapu St., Barangay 15-B, Davao City dur­ing the Anti-Crim­i­nal­ity and Ter­ror­ist Clear­ing Op­er­a­tion of the Davao City Po­lice Of­fice (DCPO).

Based on the po­lice re­port, about 12:30 a.m. yes­ter­day, while op­er­a­tives were con­duct­ing mon­i­tor­ing around the area, they caught three male per­sons who climbed on a parked Ten Wheeler Truck fronting Can­ti­lan Bank along Lapu-Lapu Street.

The cops ap­proached the three men and iden­ti­fied them­selves as the po­lice. This prompted the men to run and the cops to chase them. Dur­ing the chase, one of the sus­pects pulled a hand­gun and fired it to­wards one of the op­er­a­tives, who also fired back in self-de­fense hit­ting the sus­pect.

The armed sus­pect was iden­ti­fied as Jayson Ja­cob Balaga, 20, sin­gle, male, a res­i­dent of San Vi­cente, Brgy. Leon Garcia, Ag­dao, Davao City who was also one of the sta­tions’s iden­ti­fied R.A.T. Tugis (Rob­bery/ Hold-up, Akyat Ba­hay and Theft) per­son­al­ity.

The team rushed the sus­pect to the South­ern Philip­pines Med­i­cal Cen­ter for med­i­cal treat­ment but he died at the hos­pi­tal. His two other co­horts evaded ar­rest and fled to an un­known di­rec­tion.

The Re­gional Crime and Lab­o­ra­tory Of­fice (RCLO 11) re­cov­ered in the crime scene two fired car­tridge cases of be­lieved to be .9mm, one piece home­made .38 cal re­volver loaded with three live am­mu­ni­tion, and one fired car­tridge case now in their cus­tody. Also re­cov­ered is a color blue pack bag con­tain­ing as­sorted cloth­ing and P500 that was taken by the sus­pect and owned by Ernie Cormi­nal Cual­bar, 31, a Truck Helper who re­sides in Man­gagoy, Agu­san del Sur.
