Thief killed in police ops
An alleged theft suspect was killed while two other cohorts are still at large during an armed confrontation yesterday dawn at Lapu-Lapu St., Barangay 15-B, Davao City during the Anti-Criminality and Terrorist Clearing Operation of the Davao City Police Office (DCPO).
Based on the police report, about 12:30 a.m. yesterday, while operatives were conducting monitoring around the area, they caught three male persons who climbed on a parked Ten Wheeler Truck fronting Cantilan Bank along Lapu-Lapu Street.
The cops approached the three men and identified themselves as the police. This prompted the men to run and the cops to chase them. During the chase, one of the suspects pulled a handgun and fired it towards one of the operatives, who also fired back in self-defense hitting the suspect.
The armed suspect was identified as Jayson Jacob Balaga, 20, single, male, a resident of San Vicente, Brgy. Leon Garcia, Agdao, Davao City who was also one of the stations’s identified R.A.T. Tugis (Robbery/ Hold-up, Akyat Bahay and Theft) personality.
The team rushed the suspect to the Southern Philippines Medical Center for medical treatment but he died at the hospital. His two other cohorts evaded arrest and fled to an unknown direction.
The Regional Crime and Laboratory Office (RCLO 11) recovered in the crime scene two fired cartridge cases of believed to be .9mm, one piece homemade .38 cal revolver loaded with three live ammunition, and one fired cartridge case now in their custody. Also recovered is a color blue pack bag containing assorted clothing and P500 that was taken by the suspect and owned by Ernie Corminal Cualbar, 31, a Truck Helper who resides in Mangagoy, Agusan del Sur.
