Panelo’s appointment ‘just temporary’

Manila - Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo assuming the concurrent position of presidential spokesperson was merely temporary, President Rodrigo Duterte said on Thursday, November 8.

Speaking to reporters in Aklan, the President admitted that he wanted someone from the “media community” to be his next spokesperson.

He said a presidential spokesperson should be someone who knows “how to respond” to media queries.

“I don’t think he (Panelo) can position himself to a spokesman. Maybe in the meantime, but I’m considering other names,” Duterte said.

“I’m scouting for, preferably one from media community. Sanay eh. Sanay mag... (Media practitioners are skilled). You would know how to respond to questions,” he added.

Panelo was merely appointed as presidential spokesperson through a memorandum and not through an appointment paper.
