VSO PH CELEBRATES INT’L VOLUNTEERS DAY
The global leader in volunteering, VSO, is organizing a series of events in Davao City, which started on November 17, until the International Volunteers Day on December 5. 2018.
VSO Philippines is cooking up a series of events in Davao City to celebrate the organization’s 60th aniversary, as well as taking part in the United Nations’ International Volunteers Day to show the difference that volunteering can make.
The events started on November 17 until International Volunteers Day (IVD) on December 5, 2018.
VSO is a global leader in volunteering for development.
VSO Philippines was founded in the 1960s. Since then volunteers have improved health, livelihoods and education outcomes for hundreds of thousands of people in the Philippines. It currently works on poverty and conflict in Mindanao, as well as recruiting Filipino volunteers to do vital development work around the world.
To mark VSO’s 60th anniversary, VSO Philippines organized the Painting for Peace in Davao City on Nov. 17. The second local volunteering activity, the Mangrove Planting and Coastal Cleanup, will take place on Nov. 23 in Barangay Bucana, Davao City. It aims to build awareness among theyouth and the community about the importance of conserving the country’s coastlines and the role of
volunteers in the conservation and rehabilitation of the city’s natural asset and address climate change concerns. These initiatives showcase the importance of volunteerism in local development and in sustaining peace, green environment, and harmony in a community.
VSO Philippines will also host the annual celebration of the United Nations’ International Volunteer Day (IVD) 2018 on December 5 in Davao City. IVD 2018 will feature a volunteerism exhibit that will highlight collaborative partnership with Davao City Government, City Environment and Natural Resources Office-Davao City, Buhangin LGU Council, Baranggay 76-A Bucana, Buhangin Elementary Schoo, Ateneo de Davao University-AGSCA, Camera Club of Southern Philippines, Gaisano Mall-Bajada, Interface Development Interventions,
Philippine Eagle Foundation, Philippine Women’s College, Rizal Memorial Colleges, Royeca Ballet, Sustainable Davao Movement, VSO Returned Volunteers and network opportunities among volunteers. /
