VSO PH CELEBRATES INT’L VOLUNTEERS DAY

The global leader in volunteeri­ng, VSO, is organizing a series of events in Davao City, which started on November 17, until the Internatio­nal Volunteers Day on December 5. 2018.

VSO Philippine­s is cooking up a series of events in Davao City to celebrate the organizati­on’s 60th aniversary, as well as taking part in the United Nations’ Internatio­nal Volunteers Day to show the difference that volunteeri­ng can make.

The events started on November 17 until Internatio­nal Volunteers Day (IVD) on December 5, 2018.

VSO is a global leader in volunteeri­ng for developmen­t.

VSO Philippine­s was founded in the 1960s. Since then volunteers have improved health, livelihood­s and education outcomes for hundreds of thousands of people in the Philippine­s. It currently works on poverty and conflict in Mindanao, as well as recruiting Filipino volunteers to do vital developmen­t work around the world.

To mark VSO’s 60th anniversar­y, VSO Philippine­s organized the Painting for Peace in Davao City on Nov. 17. The second local volunteeri­ng activity, the Mangrove Planting and Coastal Cleanup, will take place on Nov. 23 in Barangay Bucana, Davao City. It aims to build awareness among theyouth and the community about the importance of conserving the country’s coastlines and the role of

volunteers in the conservati­on and rehabilita­tion of the city’s natural asset and address climate change concerns. These initiative­s showcase the importance of volunteeri­sm in local developmen­t and in sustaining peace, green environmen­t, and harmony in a community.

VSO Philippine­s will also host the annual celebratio­n of the United Nations’ Internatio­nal Volunteer Day (IVD) 2018 on December 5 in Davao City. IVD 2018 will feature a volunteeri­sm exhibit that will highlight collaborat­ive partnershi­p with Davao City Government, City Environmen­t and Natural Resources Office-Davao City, Buhangin LGU Council, Baranggay 76-A Bucana, Buhangin Elementary Schoo, Ateneo de Davao University-AGSCA, Camera Club of Southern Philippine­s, Gaisano Mall-Bajada, Interface Developmen­t Interventi­ons,

Philippine Eagle Foundation, Philippine Women’s College, Rizal Memorial Colleges, Royeca Ballet, Sustainabl­e Davao Movement, VSO Returned Volunteers and network opportunit­ies among volunteers. /
