Best foot forward

- NINA S. CUSTODIO, MD ninzcustodio@gmail.com

So it’s finally December. Christmas month finally! The carols are blaring loudly and the whole city is bedecked with yuletide ornaments that it is difficult to miss the coming of our most favorite holiday! This early, I am also beginning to think of resolutions for next year. Just in case I decide to actually get some done in 2019!

But this is not about new year’s resolutions. This is about the unexpected things that come and plague us every year.

We always welcome the good ones that happen to us but feel ‘punished’ by the ones that make us suffer.

The bad stuff that we can’t control are usually the most difficult to face. Whether it comes during the period of our lives when everything is smooth-sailing or when everything seems to be all wrong, the stress and worry that it brings are the same.

Much as we would prefer to ignore it, we know that at some point we need to deal with it. We need to confront the situation because we have no other choice but to do so.

We may initially feel downtrodden and defeated.

We may feel the universe has conspired to make us feel this way. We wonder what wrong we might have done to experience such bad karma.

During times like these curling up like a ball and hibernating till the good days come.

But no, we need to br in the moment and go through the motions. Argh.

I’d recently went through euch an ordeal. Yes, I went through the motions. It is never easy especially when you find your back against the wall and there’s nothing you can do but face the challenge because it is not going to go anywhere until you do so.

So fight and get it done and over with. Get up and face it when you are ready or when you’re just too tired of taking things sitting down.

Tread lightly and carefully.

Take your time. Take one step at a time. It may feel like it is taking too long but eventually you will get to thst better place.

The steps we take toward better days may seem tentative but it will get better in time. You will feel better. When you have cursed, cried and lamented about life’s injustices all you can, do yourself a favor and rise up to the challenge! Putting your best foot forward is the best thing you can do for yourself because you are with your best effort. You will thank yourself for it. What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Putting your best foot forward begets the best results!

Happy Sunday Everyone! :))
