PRDP adopts climate-smart tech

Climate-smart technology is being used in Philippine Rural Development Plan's (PRDP's) projects to ensure infrastructure projects' sustainability.

PRDP Mindanao deputy project director Danilo T. Alesna said in a media forum on Wednesday, November 12, 2018 at Habi at Kape, Abreeza Malls, Davao City that the term climate-smart is an initiative form PRDP to secure that infrastructure projects will be sustainable.

Through this initiative more people can benefit from their infrastructure projects.

Alesna added because of the climate-smart strategy gravel roads do not easily get damaged.

“Ang sauna man gud, naagi-an lang og ulan, wala na. Dili man pud pwede namo ingnan ang contractor na usbon na kay humana ang project (What happened before is that when it rains, the road easily gets damaged. We can't tell the contractors to redo it because it is already done),” Alesna said.

“Kaniadto ang mga tulay amo ng gihatagan ug maximum flood level nga 1 meter. Karun it is 2.5 m. Mas taas na atung elevation sa tulay karun (Before we only gave a one-meter maximum flood level for our bridges. Now, is already 2.5 meters (m), now giving a higher elevation for our bridges),” Alesna said, adding that infrastructure projects must also be able to adapt with climate-change.

Alesna said becuase of the durability and sustainability of their projects, local government units (LGU) can be assured the projects will last.

Under the PRDP's Intensified Building Up of Infrastructure and Logistics for Development (I-Build), a total of around P7 billion has been allotted for different infrastructure projects.
