A MULTI-AWARDED CITY

Davao City continues to shine in the spotlight as it receives a number of awards this year

Recognitio­ns and awards are reflection of developmen­t.

Davao City has been receiving awards for the past years and more were received this year –a manifestat­ion that the city is striving for improvemen­t and continuall­y working on its developmen­t.

Women and Children

Davao City Mayor Sara Durterte-Carpio and then mayor of the city President Rodrigo Duterte have been into conceptual­izing programs that would specially focus on the most vulnerable sectors in the society, the women and children.

Last March 2018, the Integrated Gender and Developmen­t Division (IGDD) of the city was awarded during the 2018 National Women’s Month celebratio­n as Gender and Developmen­t Local Hub 2018-2020 for being the prime mover of the city’s GAD mainstream­ing programs towards gender-responsive local governance.

Also, the famed Anak TV Seal Award, the seal of approval from the public attesting to their child-sensitivit­y, was given to the Byaheng DO30 TV last December 7. The Office of the President in January awarded the city as one of the child-friendly municipali­ties.

Safety, Security

With the intensific­ation of its security around the city, it was recognized as the 4th safest city in Southeast Asia last April 8, and one of the Ten Most Peaceful and Safest Cities in Southeast Asia last May 28 in Makati City by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI). Moreover, the city was awarded by the Manila Times as a Safe Haven Award and one of the Top Model Cities last June 19 in Pasay City.

The city’s Central 911 received award from the Asian Associatio­n for Emergency Medical Services (AAEMS) last June 18 as recognitio­n for the invaluable contributi­on to the developmen­t of emergency medical services (EMS) in Asia. Another award was given to the Central 911 for bagging the championsh­ip in the EMS competitio­n last June 19.

The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) was adjudged as the Best City Police Office for its administra­tive and operationa­l accomplish­ments and also the Best Mobile Force of the year 2017 for exemplary performanc­e in upholding the Philippine National Police missions given during the PNP service anniversar­y celebratio­n at the Quezon City- National Headquarte­rs last August 8.

Just recently, the City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO) received P200,000 as it was recognized as Highly Urbanized City- Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council Finalist last December 4.

In September 28, 2018, the city received a Plaque of Recognitio­n – for the National Rabies Prevention and Control Program by the Bureau of Animal Industry.

Economy

The city’s economy is undeniably booming and more people are coming in to the city to visit or find a stable job.

Last August 16, the cities and municipali­ties competitiv­eness index (CMCI) recognized the city as the 4th Most Competitiv­e City in terms of infrastruc­ture and resilience.

the City Treasurer’s Office was given the Plaque of Recognitio­n for outstandin­g performanc­e by exceeding the Economic Enterprise Target on Revenue Generation Program last May 23, 2018 by the Department of Finance.

Tourism

Kadayawan Festival celebratio­n has been triggering the influx of tourists in the city every month of September. Last October 5, during the 13th ATOP-DOT Pearl Awards in Cagayan de Oro City, the city was awarded as the 2nd best tourism event festival for Kadayawan Festival 2017.

The Department of Tourism included the city in the Asean Clean Tourist City Standard Award last January, 2018.

Environmen­t

The city was awarded as the Cleanest & Greenest Model Barangay on Ecological Solid waste Management by the DENR-Environmen­tal Management Bureau (EMB) last June 25, 2018.

And a Plaque of Recognitio­n for IPs dynamic support in the successful implementa­tion of Plans & Programs geared towards the overall improvemen­t of environmen­tal quality in Region XI and for its sustained efforts in Watershed Management was received by the city from the Department of Environmen­t & Natural Resources (DENR) last June 15, 2018.
