Rainy day feels

- Nina S. CUSTODIO, MD ninzcustodio@gmail.com

woke up to another dreary day. Gray all around, the sun nowhere in sight. My room is unusually colder, darker because of it.

But unlike most people who feels as the sky looks gloomy, I actually am quite cheery.

It’s a weird thing, what rainy days do to me. I happen to love it. I do not mind the cool, damp seemingly sad weather.

I actually revel in it as I would in sunshine, during sunny weather. I like the cool wind and the raindrops planting their many kisses on my face when I step out into the open. I find it comforting, it makes me feel warm and fuzzy.

In some twisted way, I think that the reason why rainy days never really gets me down is because I actually believe it’s the Universe’s way of telling me that I am not alone.

You know we all feel blue sometimes and more often than not, it makes us feel alone. It’s as if the world has forgotten we exist and has gone on without us. Ugh. Such an awful feeling, if you ask me!

The struggle to rise above the feeling is real and not everyone survives it. It helps to know where to derive strength and encouragement when human sources seem to be unavailable. You know that it happens, although not always deliberately.

There are just times when friends and family have their own challenges they need to deal with first. That is understandable. Yet we still have the tendency to feel quite alone and it can really get us down. Times like these, we need to find our own calm in the storm. It really is up to us, it needs to be a choice we make to feel better.

I find mine, quite surprisingly, in nature. I find my calm in lush green meadows and fallen leaves as I do in frozen precipitates and unbelievable muggy weather. I find encouragement in gray skies, howling winds and rainfall.

When itc rains, I feel happy rather than sad because it reminds me that our lives, like the world, has its changing seasons too. I guess my views are a bit skewed but that is how I choose to see things.

It really is in how we choose to perceive things that we learn to survive and appreciate life. It takes practice but it works.Make an effort to make good choices for yourself. You’ll feel better and be better.

Happy Sunday Everyone! :)
