The University of Santo Tomas (UST) B and University of the Philippines Women’s Football Team (UPWFT) X kept their unbeaten slates on Day 2 of the 4th Pinay in Action (PIA) Cup at the Tionko field, Barangay 76-A as of yesterday noontime.

UST-B thrashed Lianga Football Club Without a Pitch of Surigao del Sur, 13-0, to improve to a 3-0-0, win-draw-loss record in group 3.

UPWFT-X crushed Bellas Chikaz of Kidapawan City, 100, to also lead Group 1 on the same note with 3-0-0 card.

The bootfest formally opened yesterday with PIA founder Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano and South Davao Regional Football Association (SDRFA) official Edgar Te leading the ceremonial kick.

Cayetano, in her message, urged participants of the 15 teams entered in the league to always leave a good impression.

“Wherever you are on field or outside or in school, someone is watching you, waiting for her dream to evolve. You could that be role model for that little girl or little boy,” she said.

She also encouraged them, saying that when she was a volleyball player for UP, there were no spectators in their matches but the sport has become so popular now.

“It’s nice if there’s a lot of people, but if there’s none, you play for yourself. There might be one out there inspired by the way you play

whatever it is be, the best that you can be

on the pitch and out,” she added.

Cayetano, in a media inter- view, said she pushes for a lot of sports since she believes that kids have their different interests but she prioritizes football as it does not require height.

“A lot of experts say that the Filipino physique is really made to excel in football that’s why it would be good to expose kids to football at a young age,” she said.

Meanwhile, CR7 Food Truck of Davao City grabbed its second win by beating FC 95 Iligan Ladies, 3-0, in Group 3 even as PCT Medvil FC overcame Sky Warriors FC of Maco, Compostela Valley, 6-1, in Group 1.

UPWT-Y subdued Tiago FC of Dapitan, 3-0, while UST A clobbered Baliwasan-Redcorals United FC, 4-1.

Group elimination games were still ongoing as of yesterday afternoon to determine which teams will advance to the quarterfinals, semifinals and championship set today.
