ON A WEEK’S NOTICE

After Marco Demecillo’s supposed fight in Australia fizzled out, he will be facing Chinese prospect just after he got sick with fever and flu

Cebu - Despite just a week’s notice, Marco Demecillo takes his talent to China and will face young Chinese prospect Xiao Tao Su in an eight-rounder in Yinchuan on Saturday, March 2.

“Marco’s training went well. I think we have a huge chance in this fight because he has been training for almost two months. He just stopped training for three to four days after getting sick with fever and flu. This scheduled fight in China came in on short notice. Even though he got sick, we still took the fight because I believe that he had enough training,” Demecillo’s trainer Fernando Ocon told SunStar Cebu.

Demecillo was deep in training for another fight in March. But after that fight fizzled out, Demecillo quickly jumped on the opportunity for a fight in China.

“We were preparing for a fight on March 30 in Australia for a WBA championship against former world champ Billy Dib. But the fight didn’t push through. That’s why we took the China fight,” said Ocon.

The 28-year-old Demecillo has been sparring with the likes of Anthony Sabalde, Raymond Empic, Kenan Villaflor and Dave Peñalosa at the RWS Gym in Labangon, Cebu City.

Demecillo is 24-7-1 with 19 knockouts, while Su is 9-1 with four knockouts.
