UM spikers defend city Prisaa crown
Defending champion University of Mindanao (UM) proved too much for DMMA College of Southern Philippines (DCSP), 25-15, 25-14, 25-13, to retain the title at the close of the Davao City Prisaa Meet 2019 men's volleyball competition yesterday.
UM also defeated DCSP in the elimination, 25-18, 25-12, after outclassing Davao Doctors College (25-19, 25-18), Emar Human Environmental College (25-3, 25-7) and Agro-Industrial College of the Philippines (2520, 25-18).
UM, coached by veteran Jhonathan Vanta and Manuel Ramirez, was powered by Jan Ashley Jacob, Rex Paller, Christian Kieth Sampinit, John Vincent Yson, Ariel Matunhay, Edwin Pague, Fred Lhormand Maghinay, Rhyan John Bansagan, Romel Bughao, Jimmie-Lou Flores, Vergilio Saromines Jr. and Ernesto dela Cerna.
Meanwhile, Agro spikers subdued DDC, 25-13, 25-22 to place third in the volleyfest that serves as qualifying for the Regional Prisaa Meet set on April 12 to 14 in Tagum City.
Agro coach Glen Baluran, in an interview with SunStar Davao, said they just kept their third place last year.
"We are happy to place third. This is our second year in the tournament. It's really our goal to make it to the finals and play UM but they are just too strong a team," Baluran said in the vernacular.
