Sara: Be cautious on investments
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio reminded the public to be wary about where they invest their money following the mushrooming of fast money and investment schemes in Davao Region.
Duterte-Carpio emphasized that firms into fast money or investment schemes cannot operate here unless they secure a legal permit to do business.
“Sa Davao, pag walay permit hindi talaga namin ina-allow so they first get their permits from the Regulatory office and they apply sa Business Bureau natin. Kung hindi pa complete, hindi allowed mag-operate,” she said.
On Saturday, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), and the police to investigate these schemes and close them down after allegedly soliciting investments from their members.
Duterte also said the operation of Kapa is considered as a pyramid scheme.
The President's order drew flak from Kapa members who even threatened to withdraw their support to Duterte.
Duterte-Carpio refused to comment to some "investors" who said they will stop supporting the Duterte family in the next elections after her father ordered the closure of multiple investment schemes in the country.
"Dili ko mag-comment about sa feeling sa tao because there is no right or wrong feeling sa isa ka individual, so I cannot comment on that," she said.
She, however, clarified though that she has not issued any warning against investing in these easy money schemes since it is their money but she only reminded them to examine where to put it.
“Wala ko naga-warn sa kanila. I always reminded them na that is your money so you have the right to decide how to use your money. Just be careful and dapat i-vet nila ang investments na panggagamitan nila sa money nila,” the mayor said.
Meanwhile, Duterte-Carpio said Kapa members can stage a rally in the city provided that they have a permit to do so especially if the place requires for it.
“Wala man tay problema (We don't have problem) for all group, not just prayer rallies, we have no problem provided that if it's a space na kailangan ng permit (where permit is needed), they apply for a permit. If it's Freedom Park, wala'y problema. For all rallies, we just request that no crime is committed,” she said.
Kapa founder Pastor Joel Apolinario, ina video posted on the ministry's YouTube channel posted on Friday, June 7, urged his members to stage a prayer rally in Davao City.
