DAVAO City will be donating a total of P7.8 million to areas in the country that declared a state of calamity following the onslaught of Typhoon Tisoy.

The City Council on Tuesday, December 10, passed a resolution approving the recommendation of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) to extend financial assistance to seven provinces, one city, and one municipality.

The provinces of Albay, Sorsogon, Camarines Sur, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, and Northern Samar will each receive P1 million. Calbayog City in Samar will receive P500,000 while the Municipality of Arteche in Eastern Samar will receive P300,000.

CDRRMO head Alfredo Baloran said financial aide will be sourced from the portion of the 30-percent Quick Response Fund, which is five percent of the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Fund (Calamity Fund) of the local government for 2019.

Baloran said the assistance will be turned over immediately once the fund will be released.

“Ang order ni Mayor is dapat mahatod immediately atong tabang sa mga nabiktima sa disaster para ma tabangan nato sila nga muabutay na ang Christmas ug bag-ong tuig (The mayor ordered to immediately deliver the assistance to the disaster victims, especially that Christmas and New Year is fast approaching),” Baloran told reporters.

Based on the resolution, the city’s financial assistance will benefit almost 800,000 families in all areas except for Catanduances and Calbayog, wherein only agricultural lands and other infrastructures were only damaged.

Meanwhile, Baloran said the City still has enough funds. Although he cannot give the exact amount.
