LOCAL PRODUCTS FOR A BEAUTIFUL HOME

MAJORITY of 2020 was spent indoors because of the pandemic quarantine protocols. With the time spent in our homes, many of us developed different hobbies like gardening, baking, and even interior decorating.

With hours of working and staying at home, many of us thought of improving and rearranging the interiors of our homes or even particular rooms in our house. For the seven months in quarantine, Instagram and Pinterest had been our best friends. Local sellers of woven baskets, rugs, and macrame were a trend.

In Davao City, one doesn’t need to look far to find unique and functional items to accentuate the features of our homes. Aldevinco Shopping Center, whose online presence has recently been intensified, have been in the selling of local products handmade by indegenous people ( IPs).

In an interview with Marga Rey- Gross, marketing manager of Alsons Development, she said their Mindanawon handicrafts give a unique characteristic to one’s home.

“These products are handmade by local artisans. A lot of work was put into it. These pieces tell a story. It’s interesting to have something in your house that speaks of our local heritage, culture, and story,” she shared. Currently, their best- sellers include the Maranao baul that comes in different sizes. She said the bigger ones are being used by interior decorators as coffee tables while the much smaller baul are made into jewelry boxes. They also have Yakan fabrics woven in different ways and sold as table runners, placemat, and other dining table accessories.

Aldevinco Shopping Center also has T’boli brass bells that decorators dig because of its rustic and neutral colors that can be good in accentuating certain parts of a room.
