Rosales returns to US vs Bunc
CEBU – Jessie Cris Rosales makes his return to American soil as he takes on Shinard Bunch in an eight-rounder on May 13 at the Parx Casino in Bensalem, Pennsylvania.
Rosales fought three times in the US in 2019. He lost to American star Shakur Steven-* son, Tyler McCreary and Xavier Martinez.
The 30-year-old Rosales believes that he’s a better fighter now that he’s training under the tutelage of Edmund Villamor and training alongside four-division world champion Donnie Nietes at the Villamor Boxing Gym.
“I’m much more confident now because my coach is Edmund Villamor. He focused on what I lack, especially in my conditioning,” Rosales told SunStar Cebu.
“A lot has changed in my movement and technique because of coach Edmund and champ Nietes. It’s good to train with a champion because you get to train with their standards.”
Rosales came off from a two-hiatus last year and walked away with a split decision victory over Junny Salogaol in Bohol.
The 22-year-old Bunch is a promising light welterweight. He’s only been beaten once in his career, a unanimous decision defeat to Paul Kroll.
Bunch has won 16 of his last 18 fights. He’s coming off a unanimous decision over erstwhile unbeaten Shyngyskhan Tazhibay last Jan. 7 in Orlando, Florida.
“He should not be taken lightly but I believe I can beat him,” said Rosales. “I want to pin him to the corner, get in his face, and hit his body.”
Rosales is 23-4-1 with 10 knockouts, while Bunch is 18-1-1 with 15 knockouts.
