Duterte-Carpio warns officials against restricting services to unvaxxed
DAVAO City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio warned against barangay officials restricting public services for individuals unvaccinated against Covid-19.
The mayor said during her Special Hour program on Monday, May 2, that it is considered discrimination against civilians when government or barangay officials refuse government services because of an individual’s vaccination status.
“Angay na siya na ipahibalo sa atoa so that we can sit down with the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) kung unsay angay buhaton ani because clearly discrimination na siya sa mga tao na nipili na dili magpabakuna (It’s better to report such incidents to the government so we can sit down with DILG and discuss appropriate actions to take because clearly that is discrimination against those who chose not to get vaccinated),” Duterte-Carpio said.
This follows after rumors surfaced regarding a barangay that refused to accommodate basic immunization services to children with parents or guardians who are unvaccinated against Covid-19.
The mayor has long expressed her stand that unvaccinated Dabawenyos should not be discriminated against and refused government services.
“I am pro-vaccination gyod and booster. Pero in this case, dili gyod ko maka-agree with the exclusion or restriction of the unvaccinated. Tungod kay they were given the freedom to choose (I am pro-vaccination and booster but in this case, I cannot agree to exclude or restrict unvaccinated people because they were given the freedom to choose),” Duterte-Carpio said during a previous interview last January 2022.
