Dayanghirang concedes in Davao City 2nd District congressional race
INCUMBENT Davao City Second District Councilor Danilo Dayanghirang has conceded to his rival, Vincent Garcia, in the race for second district congressional representative.
Dayanghirang, in a post on his Facebook page on Tuesday, May 10, thanked everyone for their support during his stint in the City Council for the past 29 years.
The councilor also thanked the Duterte family, most especially President Rodrigo Duterte, whom he supported since he was then Davao City Mayor.
“To Hon. Vincent Garcia, I am conceding to your victory and congratulations,” Dayanghirang said.
He also thanked his supporters, and those who supported the candidacy of his son, Danilo II, who was supposed to replace him in the council. However, he was not able to make it to the Top eight, based on the recent counts.
This is the Dayanghirang’s second failed attempt for a congressional seat. The first one was in 2010, wherein he lost to then-second district representative Mylene Garcia, Vincent’s sister.
In the 2022 race, both Dayanghirang and Garcia were endorsed by the Hugpong sa Tawong Lungsod and Hugpong ng Pagbabago.
Based on the partial count as of 4 p.m. of May 10, Garcia takes the lead with 151,659 votes, while Dayanghirang garnered 70,033 votes. Independent candidate Alberto Dulong has 2,289 votes. /
