-

MANILA – President Rodrigo Duterte congratulated on Wednesday evening, May 11, 2022, the newly elected officials of the Philippines.

Duterte said he is hopeful that the winners of the just concluded 2022 national and local elections will serve the Filipino people with all their heart and ability and that they prioritize the welfare of the general public above everything.

He also thanked the public for their participation which resulted in the success of the electoral process.

Duterte appeased the non-winning candidates saying they may still serve in their respective sectors and communities even after failing to secure a government post.

“By noon of June 30, I invite the public to join me in running behind our new elected leaders so we can continue the difficult but rewarding task of building a stronger and more progressive nation,” Duterte said during his Talk to the People aired on Thursday morning, May 12, 2022.

Duterte, however, urged his successor to further push for the amendment of the Constitution as well as the abolishment of the party-list system.

He reiterated that party-list system is being abused by some groups and personalities in order to gain power.

He said it is also being used by the leftist group to destroy the government.

In March, Duterte identified the Kabataan, Anakpawis, Bayan Muna, Alyansa of Concerned Teachers (ACT), and Gabriela as among the party-lists who serve as legal fronts of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP).
